2. Information we process
When you connect GitHub, we process the GitHub profile and contribution-calendar information required to operate your public profile: GitHub ID, username, name, avatar URL, bio, contribution totals, contribution graph, and streak statistics. If you add them, we also store your X, Instagram, and LinkedIn profile links.
With your GitHub authorization, we collect your primary verified email address for account-related contact. It is stored separately from public profile data and is not displayed publicly, returned by our public APIs, or sent to analytics or advertising services.
We send a one-time welcome email with your Outcode score, wide and tall cards, and instructions for sharing your card or adding it to your GitHub README. This includes existing accounts when an email is already available or is collected on a later GitHub sign-in. We track the welcome by GitHub account, so reconnecting or changing your email does not send it again after it has been accepted for delivery. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Accounts with a verified email are also automatically eligible for occasional rank-update emails; no separate opt-in is required. These report improvements or drops of at least three places or 10% of the last notified rank, or entry into the top three. Rank updates are limited to one per rolling 24 hours, two per seven days and six per 30 days, with at least 24 hours after a welcome. We combine intervening changes rather than sending an email for each refresh. You can unsubscribe at any time.
If you use the idea board, we store the ideas and comments you submit, your votes and flags, and associated moderation records. Ideas, comments, and their GitHub authorship are public unless the content is redacted; individual flaggers are not displayed publicly.
To keep a connected profile refreshed, we store the GitHub refresh credential encrypted at rest. We also use a session cookie to keep you signed in and a short-lived OAuth state cookie to protect the sign-in flow.
3. Cookies, analytics, and advertising
This website uses cookies and similar cross-site tracking technologies. GitHub uses them for sign-in; Google Analytics and DataFast help us understand site usage; and Google AdSense supports advertising. These providers may collect device, browser, usage, and online-identifier information under their own policies. We use Google's CMP for its applicable consent flow and load DataFast only after analytics consent.
4. Why we use it
We use this information to authenticate you, create and display your public Outcode profile, refresh leaderboard data, operate the idea board, discussions, and moderation system, secure the service, understand usage, and support advertising.
5. Retention and sharing
We retain connected-profile data and your last collected verified email while your profile remains on the service and retain refresh credentials only while automatic refresh is active. We also keep private welcome and rank-delivery records, including the recipient address used, provider message ID, dated metrics, status and timestamps, to prevent duplicate emails and enforce frequency limits. New emailed wide and tall cards link to live public images and can differ from the dated email text. Stored card snapshots in older sent emails remain fixed. Deleting your profile removes its email, identifiable local delivery history and stored card snapshots; quota counts without the account association remain so deletion cannot reset service-wide sending limits. Cached images may remain available for up to 48 hours.
We use Autosend to deliver emails and manage unsubscribes, bounces and complaints. It receives your recipient address, username and email content, including public score/card links. Email open and click tracking are disabled for welcome and rank-update emails. Autosend maintains its delivery and suppression records under its own retention practices. We do not sell your email address or GitHub contribution data. We share data only with these service providers and when required by law or needed to protect the service.
6. Your choices
Use the unsubscribe link in an Outcode email to opt out of Outcode emails sent through Autosend. We honor suppression records and do not bypass unsubscribes. You can also use browser controls to manage cookies and contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of data associated with your Outcode profile. Blocking necessary cookies may prevent GitHub sign-in from working.
7. Updates
We may update this notice as the service changes. The latest version will always be published on this page.
